FAQ
- A rodless cylinder houses the piston inside a tube and couples motion to an external carriage via a magnetic or mechanical linkage. The carriage rides along the cylinder body, with no rod sticking out either end. Same stroke as a rod cylinder in roughly half the overall length, which makes them the answer for long strokes in tight envelopes.
- Long strokes in a tight envelope, when an extending rod would create hazards or interference, or when you need a side-loaded application that would bend a normal rod. Common in packaging machines, gantry-style pick-and-place, and long-stroke transfer mechanisms. Trade-off: the magnetic-coupled and band-cylinder designs are more sensitive to side load and contamination than a standard rod cylinder.
