- A temperature transducer converts a temperature input into a different output type - typically taking a thermocouple or RTD signal and outputting a voltage or current proportional to temperature. In common usage 'transducer' and 'transmitter' are used interchangeably, though strictly a transducer is the conversion element and a transmitter is a transducer plus the signal conditioning, isolation, and 4-20 mA output drive.
- 0-10 V and 0-5 V analog DC outputs, 4-20 mA loop-powered, millivolt outputs for direct interface to data acquisition systems, and digital outputs (Modbus, HART, fieldbus). The 4-20 mA loop-powered transmitter is the industrial default - two wires carry both power and signal, immune to voltage drop, and standardized across every PLC and DCS on the market.
