FAQ
- A globe valve has an S-shaped flow path with a disc that lifts off a seat in the middle. The geometry gives finer control than a gate or ball, and the seat is replaceable. Trade-off is significant pressure drop even fully open. Globe valves are the default when you need a manual throttling valve.
- Globe valves are designed for throttling and have higher pressure drop. Gate valves are designed for full-on or full-off isolation and have almost no pressure drop when open but fail quickly if you try to throttle them. If anyone has to adjust the valve mid-stroke, it should be a globe.
