FAQ
- A needle valve uses a long, tapered stem that screws down into a small seat for very fine throttling of low flows. They're slow to operate (many turns from open to closed) but precise. The standard pick for gauge isolation, sample lines, and small chemical injection.
- A safety valve is a self-operated, pressure-relieving device that opens automatically when the system exceeds a setpoint, then reseats once pressure drops. Required by ASME BPVC Section I (power boilers) and Section VIII (pressure vessels), and the last line of defense against catastrophic overpressure failure. Safety note: pressure relief device sizing must be done by a qualified engineer using API 520/521 (refining and chemical) or ASME-recognized methods. Never adjust or bypass a code-stamped safety valve.
